Doll Quilt Swap

What a great idea for a swap! Lisa, over at Losabia, thought it would be fun to swap doll size quilts, so she got a group together and off we went....

Of course I'm thinking, "Nooooo proooblleeemmmmm!". HA! It may have been small, but, I haven't made a real, true quilt in a while, and I have never actually done the binding on one...always managed to talk Mom into that! lol! Thanks, Mom!

The only thing I knew about who I was sending to was that she likes red and white. Great! So do I! I can definitely do that. So, I started off with one pattern, I don't know what it's called or if it even has a name but, it's one variation of a nine-patch. Cut up all my 2 1/2 inch squares and started sewing them together, but it's not as easy a layout as a regular 9-patch and I kept getting all confused. So, I decided to do something else...something with long strips. And that's all I knew. So I kept playing around until I came up with something, then got them all of the smaller strips sewn into the longer strips, all in the right order and everything was going great! Started sewing the longer strips together, and at about the halfway point I thought it was looking kinda funny...yep, screwed up again and wasn't always putting the right ends together. Got my money's worth out of my seam ripper just on that project alone!

Finally got everything sewn up just right and now was the time for binding. That's ok, I'm a big girl now and I can do everything, mitered corners and all! Ya know, sometimes that Smith Ego just gets in the way. Mitered corners were not happening! Hello little seam ripper, my new best friend!

So, regular binding it was, and here's the finished project:

This is the whole thing...It's hard to actually see it but, the binding is black with teeny tiny white polka-dots.

A close up shot for the detail...

And here you can see the back-white with black polka dots with the black and white polka dot binding.

It's all a little wonky, but...that's what handmade is about, right everyone??? Riiiiiiiiight! lol!

In the tradition of saving the best for last, this is what I received from Jennifer (MamaUrchin)...

I could not get a decent picture of this quilt to save my life, so this does not nearly do it justice, but I love this so much...I've been sleeping with it. But, that's just our little secret! Of course she didn't know this, but some of the fabrics she used are fabrics I have myself, and some of the other fabrics are ones that I have long coveted but are not available anymore. Plus, she was inspired by Lisa Congon and her work, which I love! It is the perfect quilt for me!

THANK YOU, JENNIFER for the most gorgeous quilt of coveted fabric ever made!

This picture is a little better.

Look what she did on the back!

One more picture before you go-a close up, so you can see the details better. I love every single fabric she used!

Thank you Lisa for organizing all of this!

Of course, Jennifer and I weren't the only quilters involved in this, so go look HERE and see all of the beautiful works of art!

Pssssssst! If you are interested, I hear that Round #2 of the Doll Quilt Swap is in the works!

O I love both quilts just forward them both to me! I was about to get violent when I thought the umbrella print was that hedgehog/mushroom print I want so badly. But then I settled down when I saw it wasn't. But all of the fabrics are so lovely.

I am so glad you like it so much. I had a lot of anxiety that it would be too wonky for you. I hope you continue to enjoy it.

What a wonderful swap! Makes me want to sign up for the next one, even though I have zero time right now (being in the garden biz and being that it is springy-summery right now). Both quilts are so great, so very very fun and sweet.

Love this quilt. I think you had a good idea quilting it in the middle of the strips. It makes a wonderful tridimensional effect.
