Help a Bird...and keep the kids busy!

I cannot remember where I saw this...I am HORRIBLE at remembering these things! I need to start taking notes. But, I'm pretty sure it was on somebody's blog, as that is the only thing I read these days...blogs. If anybody recognizes this and where it came from, be sure and let me know because I would be happy to give them credit.

I thought it was a great craft for the kids. Fun, yet still somewhat educational. You could get REALLY into it and even use it as a lesson...I just hit on the highlights though.

Anyway...it's about helping the birds with building their nests. Great for recycling/reusing all of those scraps every crafter has around.

You start with a little pile of those teeny, tiny scraps you just can't do anything else with...

You will also need some kind of a wide weave netting. We used some purple plastic netting that some Jacks came in-a favor from a birthday party.

All you have to do is put the scraps into the netting, ball it up and tie it closed. I just took one of the long scraps and weaved it in and out of the holes in the netting, then tied it closed. You will also need to add something/another long scrap to use to tie it to a tree branch.

Here it is all done! Hopefully the birds will come along and pull the scraps out and use them to build up their nests, making them all nice, soft and comfy and extra warm for that cold weather!

The kids enjoyed doing this, and unbeknownst to them, they were actually helping me clean up the floor of the sewing room! lol!

What a great idea - you have to tell us if the birds came! You should have the best nests in your neighbourhood.

So Clever! My kids and I just did peanut butter and bridseed covered pinecones for the little birds here, and we'll have to try this next!

I'm hoping to have the prettiest nests in the neighborhood! lol!

Hmmm...maybe I should do the peanut butter pine cones, too, and leave them near the nest building supplies, and hope that the birds figure out what that ball of junk is for. lol!
